A bombing and shooting attack on a mosque in Egypt has left 200 people dead and at least 130 people wounded according to the state news agency MENA.

Officials say four off-road vehicles manned by militants suspected to be with the area's local Islamic State affiliate, bombed the mosque and fired on worshipers during the sermon segment of Friday prayers.

The attack occurred on the al-Rawdah mosque in the northern part of the Sinai Peninsula. The mosque, attended largely by Sufi Muslims, is located in the town of Bir al-Abd.
