Lightning Strikes Woman Talking On Phone At Musical Festival

A 22-year-old woman is in critical condition after she was struck by lightning while attending the Country Thunder Music Festival in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin. Brittney Prehn was on her phone as she headed for cover when a band of severe storms rolled into the area. As she was talking, a bolt of lightning ripped through her body.

Bystanders found her lying unconscious and called 911. A paramedic told WLS-TV that "there's significant damage to the phone that caused the injuries to her face, and the electricity exit was through her foot." A witness said the bolt of lightning was so strong that blew her boot off of her foot.

Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth said that Prehn was not carrying identification when she was struck by lightning, and that police were unable to identify her until the following morning after her mother called to report she was missing.

"Because she had family and friends there at different campsites and I'm speculating that everybody thought she was at a difference campsite," Beth said. "Brittney's mother called us at the Sheriff's Department and basically determined by a tattoo that that's her daughter."
