NBA Says Regular Season Hiatus Will Last At Least 30 Days

NBA Suspends Season After Player Tests Positive For Coronavirus

The National Basketball Association's regular season hiatus will last at least 30 days due to COVID-19 concerns, according to Commissioner Adam Silver.

The league abruptly suspended its regular season on Wednesday night after Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

In a letter to fans sent out Thursday evening, Silver laid out the league's plan and its concerns over contributing to the spread of the disease.

"This hiatus will last at least 30 days and we intend to resume the season, if and when it becomes safe for all concerned," Silver writes. "In the meantime, we will continue to coordinate with infectious disease and public health experts along with government officials to determine safe protocols for resuming our games."

Silver clarified that tickets purchased for postponed games will be honored when the game is rescheduled. In the event some games are not rescheduled or played without fans, teams will offer fans a credit towards a future game or refund.

He encouraged fans to check NBA.com for the latest news, updates and interactive features, as well as guidelines on how to keep safe.

"This remains a complicated and rapidly evolving situation that reminds us that we are all part of a broader society with a responsibility to look out for one another," Silver concluded.
