BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Chris Sale threw the final pitch of the 2018 season and, tonight in Seattle, he'll toss Boston's first of 2019.

Madison Bumgarner's achieved that feat for the Giants, but it hasn't happened in the American League since Scott McGregor with the Orioles in the 1980's.

Sale's started a pair of games against the Mariners since joining the Sox—14 scoreless innings.

Ryan Brasier enjoyed a great season and playoff run for Boston last year, too. He even had his family by his side—and, because of that, he went to court.

The Red Sox reliever told USA Today he received a court summons from the Wichita Falls, Texas school system for keeping his eight-year-old son out of first grade for 21 days while he watched his dad win a World Series. Apparently, his son was in danger of being expelled.

The situation's been resolved, and Brasier said if Boston reaches another championship round, he'll have to un-enroll his son in school, then re-enroll him, which he admitted is kind of stupid.
