On NH Today, Pappas to Biden on Inflation: "More Needs To Be Done"

Congressman Pappas on Biden Administration’s handling of inflation, “More needs to be done here. . .We’ve got to push them to take a more aggressive posture. We’ve got to do what we can in Congress.”

In an interview with WGIR’s Chris Ryan, the Representative from New Hampshire’s First Congressional District, Chris Pappas, discusses his belief that New Hampshire is against the Supreme Court overturning Roe vs. Wade; discusses his support for a bill which would ban members of Congress from stock trading; questions statements from the Biden Administration that they have inflation under control; and defends his call for a federal gas tax holiday.

The Women’s Health Protection Act, a bill which is intended to codify nationally the abortion rights guaranteed in the Roe vs. Wade, has passed the House of Representatives but fell well short (49-51) of the 60-vote minimum to be considered by the Senate.

Congressman Pappas is certain that the majority of people in the Granite State and nationally do not want Roe vs. Wade overturned.

“The people of New Hampshire support Roe vs. Wade, and I think they are outraged by the thought that somehow the Supreme Court can rip up a precedent that has been in place for nearly fifty years.”

The possibility that more restrictive abortion legislation or outright bans might be put forward if the Republicans get control of Congress or by states like Texas is the reason why Congress Pappas favors legislation which would guarantee important health considerations and protections.

Congressman Pappas has called for Nancy Pelosi and the House leadership to allow debate and a vote on legislation which would ban members of Congress from trading in stocks.

The current law requires members of Congress and government employees to report the sale and purchase of stocks, bonds, and commodity futures, exceeding $1000 within 30 days. However, many lawmakers file late or not at all.

Recently, President Biden stated that the policies which he has put in place are working to stem the effects of inflation. Congressman Pappas disagrees.

“More needs to be done here. . .We’ve got to push them to take a more aggressive posture. We’ve got to do what we can in Congress. . .to provide some relief, whether it’s a gas tax holiday that would put money back in people’s pockets or taking on the big corporations, some of which are recording record profits at the expense of the American people.”
