Omarosa Says She Secretly Recorded Her Firing to "Protect Myself"

Former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman told "Meet the Press" on Sunday that she secretly recorded her firing by White House chief of staff John Kelly to "protect" herself.

During an extensive interview with Chuck Todd while promoting her new tell-all book about her time in the White House, Newman said that if she didn't have those recordings, no one "in America would believe me."

“I am so glad that I did because now we can put to bed all those false rumors,” she added.

"Meet the Press" aired several clips of the taped conversation of Omarosa's firing, which included portions of Kelly talking about Manigualt Newman's reputation and some "pretty serious integrity violations" against her.

“If we make this a friendly departure we can all ... look at your time here in the White House as a year of service to the nation without any difficulty in the future relative to your reputation,” Kelly can be heard saying on the tape.

Manigualt Newman told Todd she believed that Kelly was threatening her to stay silent.

"The chief of staff ... under the direction of the president of the United States threatening me on damage to my reputation and things getting ugly for me. That is downright criminal," she said.

Manigualt Newman also doubled down on previous claims that the current administration does not care about African-Americans, calling President Trump a "con" a "liar" and a "racist."

She also said she acknowledged the fact that she had been "complicit" defending Trump in the past.

“Being used by Donald Trump for so long, I was like the frog in the hot water,” she said. “I was complicit with this White House deceiving this nation. They continue to deceive this nation by how mentally declined he is.”

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said Omarosa's book, "riddled with lies and false accusations. It’s sad that a disgruntled former White House employee is trying to profit off these false attacks, and even worse that the media would now give her a platform, after not taking her seriously when she had only positive things to say about the President during her time in the administration."
