President Donald Trump has revoked the security clearances of several political figures, including former President Joe Biden, former Vice President Kamala Harris, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The decision, announced in a memorandum on Saturday (March 22), affects more than a dozen individuals and is framed as being "no longer in the national interest" for them to access classified information.
"This action includes, but is not limited to, receipt of classified briefings, such as the President’s Daily Brief, and access to classified information held by any member of the Intelligence Community by virtue of the named individuals’ previous tenure in the Congress," the memo says.
The list of those affected extends beyond Biden and Harris, including former Biden administration officials and figures involved in Trump's first impeachment trial, such as Fiona Hill and Alexander Vindman. Legal figures like New York Attorney General Letitia James and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who have pursued legal cases against Trump, are also included.
The revocation also includes lawmakers, including Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, Republicans who served on the committee investigating the January 6 attack on the Capitol.
The memo instructs executive departments and agencies to revoke any active security clearances and access to classified information for these individuals.
