New Hampshire Today: Interview with Senator Tom Cotton

In an interview with Chris Ryan and Justin McIsaac, Senator Tom Cotton, a Republican from Arkansas and possibly a 2024 presidential candidate, assesses the first 100 days of the Biden Administration, criticizes aspects of the $2 trillion Jobs Plan, questions the effectiveness of President Biden’s foreign policy initiatives, weighs in on trans gender males participating in female sports, and replies to a comment by our Ambassador to the UN that the US is built on white supremacy.

As you might expect, Senator Cotton is very critical of the tone and agenda of the Biden Administration. He criticizes the far left turn which President Biden has taken since his promises of unity and bipartisan government at his inauguration.

The Senator questions spending trillions of dollars, supposedly for infrastructure, when only 5% goes to what is traditionally considered infrastructure—roads, bridges, ports, etc.

When asked about what he would like to see in an infrastructure bill, Senator Cotton accepts the need improve internet service or broadband, especially in rural states like New Hampshire. Republican Senators are offering an alternative bill which includes $600-800 billion mainly for traditional infrastructure projects.

The inclusion of $400 billion for home healthcare in the current infrastructure bill is, according to Senator Cotton, designed to line the pockets of the SEIU-Service Employees International Union, a large contributor to the Democratic Party. The Senator is not against improving home healthcare, but he believes that it should be considered separately.

Senator Cotton also takes aim at the Biden Administration officials for condemning America for systemic racism. The Senator also criticizes the Biden immigration policies for causing a catastrophe at our southern border.

“This is entirely a man-made crisis at our southern border, and the man who made it is Joe Biden. Primarily, the crisis is not people running away from the Border Patrol. It’s people running to the Border Patrol.”

When he visited the border and talked to the migrants, the Senator Cotton claims that they invariably said that they were here for a better opportunity, not that they were mistreated in their home country. The Senator believes that the crisis at the border would be solved if the Trump immigration policies were reinstated.

Several state legislatures have recently passed laws to prevent transgender females from participating in female athletic competitions. Senator Cotton supports treating all people with decency and respect, but he believes female athletes should not be forced to compete against biological males.

In the final segment of the interview, Senator Cotton replied to comments made by the US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield that white supremacy is weaved into America’s founding documents.

“Of course, America is an imperfect country because we are made up of people. However, there is no country which is nobler, and no country which has done more to advance the cause of human freedom.”
